Tübingen Shines with a Nine-Story Timber-Hybrid High-Rise

A new high-rise has been completed in Tübingen’s industrial district, situated in close proximity to the Neckar River. The “Green Tower” has reached an impressive height of 29 meters. Since May 2023, it has housed approximately 50 offices and 10 conference rooms for the Tübingen Main Customs Office. For the project developers and owners of the Tübingen-based company Meleo, Volker Prichystal and Steffen Schwab, this building represents a project of the future.

The high-rise was constructed using an innovative hybrid method combining wood, concrete, and steel. A photovoltaic system on the roof provides eco-friendly electricity. One of the building’s most distinctive features is its green façade, which serves both as a shading element and as a natural cooling system through the evaporation of plant water.

For this extraordinary construction project, SÜLZLE Stahlpartner Rosenfeld supplied approximately 20 tons of processed steel profiles in 2022 to complement the wooden structure for the interior and an additional 6 tons for the exterior cladding.

Furthermore, by August 2023, around 35 tons of walkways and railings from SÜLZLE STAHL Ehrenfriedersdorf were installed in the outdoor area. Although wood was predominantly used throughout the building, the use of reinforced concrete was unavoidable for the basement, the elevator shaft, and the load-bearing foundation. For these structural components, SÜLZLE Stahlpartner from Dusslingen provided the necessary reinforcement steel.
