Application
The interaction between reinforcing steel mesh and concrete
Reinforcing mesh plays a crucial role in the modern construction industry: it is an indispensable building element that provides stability and strength as well as durability in many construction projects.
As concrete is inherently resistant to high compressive forces, but has little ability to withstand tensile forces, reinforcement is essential. Steel meshes are ideal for this purpose: they are able to absorb and withstand enormous tensile forces. The interaction between reinforcing steel mesh and concrete thus ensures optimum tensile and compressive strength, giving the entire concrete structure durability even under the highest loads.
Overview
What types of steel mesh are there?
Depending on the construction project, SÜLZLE Stahlpartner has a range of different structural steel meshes in its portfolio:
- Stock meshes: These reinforcement meshes are standardised with their specified dimensions and construction types and are produced in large quantities from normal ductile B500A and highly ductile B500B reinforcing steel. They are available in different variants as type Q and type R.
- Listed meshes (drawing meshes): Structural steel mesh that is produced according to the customer’s individual requirements is known as customised mesh. Properties such as bar diameter and bar spacing as well as lengths and widths can be freely determined, taking into account static and structural conditions. Like the bearing mats, the list mats are also available in both normal ductile B500A and high ductile B500B reinforcing steel.
- Special dyn mats: This type of reinforcement mesh is primarily used for increased dynamic loads, as it has a high fatigue strength due to its special design. They can also be manufactured from normal ductile B500A and high ductile B500B reinforcing steel.
- HS meshes: HS meshes belong to the list meshes and are particularly in demand for penetrations and corner joints. They are also made of normal ductile B500A and highly ductile B500B reinforcing steel.
- N-meshes: N-meshes are non-standardised reinforcing steel meshes. The diameter of their bars is below the minimum requirement specified by DIN 488 for reinforcing steel meshes. They are therefore not suitable for applications subject to static loads and are mainly used in flooring and landscaping.
- Roadway mats: As the name suggests, these structural steel mats are primarily used in concrete roads. Their special design with a reinforced edge makes them particularly suitable for this area of application.
Our wide range of products also includes reinforcing steel meshes and surface reinforcement made from welded reinforcing steel.
