Bright steel from SÜLZLE: product forms, production and advantages
SÜLZLE offers bright steel in various product shapes and dimensions: Flat or square steel, wedge steel, round steel, hexagonal steel, T-steel, U-steel or angle steel.
Characteristics and applications of bright steel.
Bright steel is characterised by its smooth and bright surface. Its name is also derived from this property. It is used wherever dimensionally accurate steel with a bright surface is required. Typical areas of application are therefore the automotive industry, mechanical engineering and the electrical and hydraulic industries.
The production of bright steel.
In most cases, the starting material consists of hot-rolled wires or bars, but strictly speaking, any steel can be used to produce bright steel as long as it can be drawn or peeled.
Drawing
Cold forming without cutting transforms the starting material into bright steel on the drawing machine. The work hardening in this process gives the steel a higher yield strength and tensile strength.
Peeling
Peeling is a machining process in which a rotating peeling head processes the steel. This removes all layers of the edge and reveals a flawless surface. In contrast to drawing, peeling does not change the strength properties of the steel. Due to the properties of this manufacturing process, peeled bright steel is always round steel.
The steel can then be further processed by grinding or polishing to achieve an even better surface finish and dimensional accuracy.
Bright steel and its advantages.
Bright steel offers a number of advantages:
- It has a bright and scale-free surface, making defects immediately recognisable
- It can be produced in very thin dimensions
- Improved strength properties are achieved through chipless cold forming
- Thanks to its surface, the steel can be used without additional processing steps, which makes it highly cost-effective
