Reinforcing steel
83,000 tonnes of reinforcing steel bars were delivered.
Stuttgart
Stuttgart 21 is a true project of the century, which offers great opportunities for urban development and the Stuttgart metropolitan region in terms of transport and also economically. At the centre of this major project is the conversion of the terminus station with 17 tracks into an underground through station with 16 tracks. SÜLZLE Stahlpartner has created the ‘S21’ project bending shop in Denkendorf specifically for this purpose. Thanks to the high level of flexibility and fast response time, large quantities can be quickly provided and delivered in the event of unexpected events.
Products and services
The Stuttgart 21 railway project is one of the largest construction projects in Germany. The centrepiece is the conversion of Stuttgart’s main railway station from a terminus to an underground through station.
Huge quantities of reinforcing steel are being used in the foundations, floor slabs, walls, columns and ceilings of the building and in the numerous railway tunnels so that they can easily absorb the high static loads such as tensile and compressive forces. Over 83,000 tonnes of reinforcing steel bars, reinforcing steel mesh, 300,000 screw connections and spacers are being supplied by SÜLZLE Stahlpartner branches throughout southern and eastern Germany for this major construction project.
Another milestone reached in the Stuttgart 21 project
On 27 February 2021, Deutsche Bahn successfully concreted the 14th chalice support for the future Stuttgart main station. This means that half of the total of 28 uniquely shaped concrete artworks that form the roof of the new platform hall are now in place. Together with Olaf Drescher, Chairman of the Management Board of DB Projekt Stuttgart-Ulm GmbH, the new Mayor of Stuttgart, Dr Frank Nopper, and the station’s architect, Christoph Ingenhoven, followed the work.
The entire chalice contains around 350 tonnes of reinforcing steel, which is distributed across 22,000 individually measured steel struts. Ed. Züblin AG is relying on SÜLZLE Stahlpartner to manufacture the customised reinforcement. The railway is always constructing several goblet supports at the same time, which is why the 15th goblet support was concreted in mid-April.
